Hackathon Rules

The rules for taking part in a Supabase hackathon.

1. Eligibility

The hackathon is open to individuals who are at least 18 years old, or the legal age of majority in their country of residence, whichever is older.

Employees of Supabase may participate but are not eligible to win prizes.

By entering, participants agree to abide by these Rules, Supabase's Code of Conduct, and the decisions of Supabase.

2. Registration

All participants must register before the start of the event.

Teams may consist of individuals or groups (team size limits may be set by the organizers).

3. Project Requirements

Original work during the event. All projects must be created solely during the hackathon. Pre-existing projects are not eligible, though participants may use open-source projects, libraries, frameworks, and APIs as building blocks.

Use of Supabase. To be eligible for prizes, submissions must meaningfully integrate Supabase services (for example database, auth, storage, edge functions, or realtime).

Data privacy. Projects must not use or process sensitive personal data, protected health information (PHI), or any data in violation of applicable data protection and privacy laws.

4. Submission Guidelines

Each team must submit their project by the announced deadline.

Submissions must include a project description, a demo or code, and instructions for running the project.

Late submissions will not be considered.

5. Judging Criteria

Projects will be judged by a panel selected by Supabase. Submissions will be evaluated on the following criteria:

  • Innovation and creativity — originality of the idea and approach.
  • Technical execution — quality of implementation, scalability, and difficulty.
  • Use of Supabase — how meaningfully Supabase features are integrated.
  • Practical impact — usefulness, relevance, or potential real-world value.
  • Presentation and demo — clarity, polish, and effectiveness of the demo.

6. Prizes

Prizes will be awarded to the top teams as determined by the judges.

Only projects that comply with these rules are eligible to win.

7. Intellectual Property

Teams retain ownership of their projects.

By submitting a project, participants grant Supabase and its affiliates a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive, non-revocable, transferable license to use, reproduce, publicly display, perform, distribute, and publish the project name, descriptions, screenshots, demos, and other elements of the project for marketing, promotional, and event-related purposes, as well as research, testing, and product development purposes, including incorporating ideas or feedback into Supabase's products and services.

8. Miscellaneous

Supabase reserves the right to disqualify any submission that violates these rules.

Supabase may cancel, modify, or suspend the hackathon due to unforeseen circumstances.

These rules are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA.
